Description:

Love is in the air in Aspen Hills, and it’s making a terrible mess of Cat Latimer’s writers’ retreat—especially when blood stains the plot . . .

Ever since her business partner, Shauna, fell for a wealthy landowner in town, Cat has been working double time to keep her writers’ retreat running. And with the January session almost underway, that spells trouble. As if scheduling mishaps aren’t disastrous enough, Shauna skips out on kitchen duties one morning, forcing Cat to serve unsuspecting guests store-bought muffins . . .

But best laid plans really go awry when Shauna discovers her beau missing from their bed. When his body later turns up in the horse barn, they quickly find out the victim’s scandalous lifestyle left many dying for revenge. While balancing an eccentric group of aspiring writers and a suspect list for the record books, Cat soon finds herself on the heels of a killer—and authoring her most deadly conclusion yet .

My Thoughts:

Cat Latimer is back and hosting another retreat this one includes an ex-cop Shirley, who wants to help Cat solve her ex-husband Michael's murder.  What Cat seems to be having trouble with is Shauna who is dating a wealthy landowner and taking over Shauna's time making Cat wonder if Shauna will be able to keep up at the retreat.  When her boyfriend goes missing Uncle Pete is on the hunt for clues as to what happened to Shauna's boyfriend.  Where could he have gone and why not tell Shauna? Later that day word gets out that Shauna's boyfriend is dead who could have killed him and why?  Could it have been a bitter ex?  Or his business associate who seems to be looking to close Shauna out of everything?  Of course we are also left wondering what happened to Michael?  Was he into something that got him killed or was it a random killing?

I love this series since it began it's like nothing else I've read.  It follows a retreat runner who has such fun hosting these things minus the murders normally.  This murder seemed to hit closer as it was her friend's boyfriend and she is stuck watching her friend suffer such sadness.  Of course Cat is determined to help her friend and I love that about Cat her loyalty to her friends.  That and her working on her own books is also a great pleasure.  I just can't get enough of this series and look forward to reading what Cat is up to next!
